The 6th Short Story America Conference on Short Fiction is scheduled for the weekend of November 4-6 in the gorgeous and historic waterfront town of Beaufort, South Carolina. The conference, for writers and readers of short stories, will feature presenters from the acclaimed Short Story America anthology series, plus readings, discussions and book signings by today's authors. The weekend includes a reception at the historic Lewis Reeve Sams House on Friday evening, followed by presentations, readings, discussions, and social time on Saturday and Sunday. Seating is limited, so order your pass as soon as possible (only $35, as the conference is not for profit, but rather for the love of the great original American literary art form).

In his debut collection of short stories, MacIlroy deftly leads the reader to the very moment when everything changes for his characters, then powers on to endings that reveal the fullness of the human condition.

Burrowing deep into the soul, these eighteen stories probe deeply into the shadows which haunt at the margins of his characters' lives. Many remind us that the truly powerful things that happen to us spring from the everyday, only to slide sideways to the deeper end of our experience, and even our imagination.

"... remarkable and full-bodied stories with end notes as satisfying as a fine wine."

"... written with the skill of a born storyteller gifted with a poet's eye."
--- Douglas Campbell, winner of the Able Muse
